Participate

We are looking for participants for our speech studies! If you already know you’d like to join, fill out our screening form (~3-12 minutes). Or read below to learn more about who we are looking for and what it’s like to participate.

Who can participate in research at the SMALL Lab?

We may be looking for volunteers who are:

  • Adults with no speech, language, hearing, or neurological disorders
  • People with Parkinson’s disease, MS, ALS, or other neurological disorders
  • Adults with voice disorders
  • Adults seeking to modify their voice to align with who they are

What will I be asked to do?

You may be asked to:

  • Fill out surveys and questionnaires
  • Speak and read aloud
  • Listen to recordings of other people and rate or answer questions about those recordings
  • Participate in one-on-one or group interviews
  • Undergo hearing and cognitive screenings

Eligible participants will be compensated for their time ($24/hour).

What data will you collect from me?

All research data we collect is anonymized. We may collect from you:

  • Acoustic data from recordings of you speaking
  • Your responses to questions about recordings you listen to
  • Your responses to surveys, questionnaires, and interview questions
  • Hearing and cognitive data from screenings
